New online show up at Rosalux Gallery

I almost forgot to post about a new online show at Rosalux Gallery. It’s called Escape and deals with our mutual experience of being stuck in pandemic mode for a year now. It shows the work of 14 of Rosalux’s members and is definitely worth checking out. There is even the opportunity of buying the book if you’re so inclined.

12 Questions: Interview with James May Gallery

There is a new interview with me up on the James May Gallery website. The questions are terrific, a good instigator for deep thinking. I took my time with every single one of them, not wanting to rush it by any means. I love it when an interview leads to a rethinking of things that I do on a daily basis. Thank you for this, Kendra!

New online show 'Mirror' is up on Rosalux Gallery's website

The new show was organized in collaboration with the Jealous Curator Danielle Krysa . She chose the theme of Mirror for this iteration of the Quarantine Project series at Rosalux Gallery. You can find the entirety of the show here. My very own contribution is down below.

Here is more on the theme:

Isn’t it ironic that ‘2020' often refers to seeing things more clearly? Well, this year has certainly done that. 2020 has grabbed us by the shoulders and given the world a much needed shake. First, a global quarantine forced humankind to break from the normal routine of 'commute, consume, repeat'. Shocking at first, but in hindsight, it’s become clear we don’t need to live that way - something Mother Nature has been begging us to realize for decades. And then, the murder of George Floyd took yet another set of blinders off. Racism is not a topic we can place neatly into history books and close the cover on. Systemic racism has been methodically woven into our daily lives - even if we don’t want to believe it.

All of us need to take a moment, hold up a mirror, and take a really close look. Who are you? What do you believe? What can you do differently? 2020 wants to know.

Rosalux Gallery online show Intimacy now live

Since Rosalux Gallery is currently not presenting live exhibitions due to the pandemic, the gallery is organizing online shows every 6 weeks in collaboration with a guest curator. This month’s show features the work of members of the collective responding to the theme of Intimacy chosen by Nicole Soukup, assistant curator of contemporary art and the Minnesota Artist Exhibition Project (MAEP) coordinator at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

Down below you see my contribution to the show. But please check out the entirety of the show at the gallery’s website. It’s way worth it.

For this piece I let the camera do the work of viewing up close a recent sketchbook and capture the intimate relationship between color and light.

The link for the show is here. You can also see the previous show on the theme of Home there as well.

Indeterminate Spaces, Intuitive Places at James May Gallery

I am very excited to be a part of the show Indeterminate Spaces, Intuitive Places at James May Gallery starting in June 2020. Other participating artists are Emmett Johns, Lisa Bergant Koi and Kayla Plosz Antiel. It will be on view through August 31st. Because of the current pandemic the show will occur online only. You can see the entirety of the exhibition on Artsy.

In light of the recent killing of George Floyd here in the Twin Cities, we decided to donate 60% of the proceeds for the painting below to Black Lives Matter. For more info please visit the website of James May Gallery. Link here.
